Small Sided Football

Football Australia announced the nationwide introduction of SSF in 2008. This change is part of the National Football Development Plan.

All Under 6 and Under 7 games in season 2018 will be played in house (ALL games are played at Moggill FC see fixtures above when available).

Our U8 - U11 fixtures will be played within the Football Brisbane Pool (home and away). As per FBI Policy, U9-U11 players will be "Soft Graded" into Gecko, Goanna and Komodo Teams.

Why change?
Officials at the national level recognised the need to introduce SSF as the standard playing format for children under the age of 11 in Australia. The justification for taking such an approach is based on the following criteria:
  • more fun and individual enjoyment due to smaller fields and simplified rules
  • more playing time, which maximises individual participation and involvement
  • far more repeated touches of the ball by all players on the field
  • more shots on goals
  • more involvement leads to greater improvement in fitness

Importantly, a significant amount of research has been conducted in countries where SSF is prevalent, which overwhelmingly highlights benefits such as more touches, greater participation as well as more enjoyment for the children.
